International Water Polo Player Ioanna Stamatopoulou, originally from Amaliada, named Ambassador of the 59th International Children's Games OLYMPIA - ELIS 2027
International water polo player, World Champion with the Greek National Team, and Olympiacos athlete Ioanna Stamatopoulou, who hails from Amaliada, becomes the official Ambassador of the 59th International Children's Games "OLYMPIA - ELIS 2027".
The international goalkeeper and one of the world's elite elite athletes in women's water polo is a World Championship Gold medalist and was named best goalkeeper at the recent 2025 World Championship, as well as a European Championship Bronze medalist with the Greek National Team in 2026. Ioanna Stamatopoulou will now serve as an Ambassador for the 59th International Children's Games, which will be hosted in our region in the summer of 2027.
Following a meeting with the Mayor of Ilida, Mr. Christos Christodoulopoulos, and the Mayor of Ancient Olympia, Mr. Aristidis Panagiotopoulos, she accepted the proposal with great joy and honor, committing to contribute to the promotion of the Games through her role as Ambassador of the event.
This marks the first announcement of prominent sports personalities who will undertake major initiatives to promote and publicize the largest event hosted in Ilia since antiquity. The Games will take place in one year's time across the Municipalities of Ancient Olympia and Elis, specifically from June 27 to July 2, 2027.
